History of Satchells
Established in 1922 by Mr. J.G.D Satchell in Station Road, Letchworth Garden City, we have steadily grown over the years to become one of the largest independently owned and operated Estate Agents in the area with 6 prominent town centre offices. Bill Parker joined the firm soon after the war and when Mr. Satchell retired, Bill took the lead and was joined by his son-in-law John Hilditch. When Bill retired John took full control and expanded the firm by relocating the Letchworth office from Station Road to East cheap, then opening offices in Baldock, Biggleswade, Sandy and Stotfold. His sons, Alan and Derek then joined the firm before relocating the Sandy office to Shefford with our latest office opening in Hitchin in 2015.
Over the decades, Satchell’s has built its reputation on consistency, local knowledge and approach that puts clients first. From our earliest days in Letchworth Garden City, we have focused on providing a reliable, professional service by strong values: honesty, discretion and commitment to achieving the best outcome. As the towns we serve have evolved, we continue to invest in our people, offices and expertise, ensuring we remain a trusted name for homeowners, landlords, buyers and tenants.
Unlike other agents, we continue to be a general practice agency, dealing with residential sales and lettings, all aspects of commercial property, land and development and a range of professional services. This ‘whole market’ knowledge gives our team an understanding of how different parts of the property sector connect, whether selling a family home, seeking premises for a business, considering development potential, or looking for support with a more specialist property matter. Importantly, our advice is shaped by real, day to day experience across the local area, not a one size fits all approach.
Our staff can deal with any property matter in house or with assistance from a vast range of third party companies who we work closely with. This means we can help clients navigate the process smoothly, keeping communication clear and timelines on track, while drawing on trusted professionals whenever additional support is required.
For almost 100 years we have served and supported our community whilst maintaining our independence as a family firm which we expect to continue doing long into the future, with the fourth generation now being part of our strong team.
