Get Ready for Summer with Granny Satchells Swizzle!

Recently we’ve been treated to just a hint of summer as the sun has made an appearance and our Vitamin D levels have started to replenish.

There’s nothing better than being able to soak up some warmth, and after an extremely tough year for everyone, we are all looking forward to balmy summer days when we can kick back, relax in our gardens and enjoy the freedom we have missed for so long.

So, take this as your cue to uncover the garden furniture, cut back the grass, pull up the weeds, scrub the patio and decking, and dust off the barbecue as we all prepare for a fabulous summer ahead.

But wait, what’s missing?

Anyone for a cocktail?
Now, Granny Satchell looks like a sensible lady but she’s wild at heart and she’s a dab hand at whipping up a Margarita or a Singapore Sling plus a few others with unmentionable names that would get censored here!

But her favourite cocktail? That’s the Rum Swizzle – sometimes referred to as Granny Satchells Swizzle. It’s a little like a rum punch - and it’s perfect for sharing.

Granny Satchells Rum Swizzle*

Here’s the ingredients you’ll need:

• 8 ounces of rum
• 8 ounces of freshly squeezed orange juice
• 8 ounces of pineapple juice
• 3/4 ounce of Grenadine
• 6 drops of Angostura bitters

You’ll also need an orange slice, a pineapple wedge and not forgetting a cherry as garnish!
Here’s how to make Granny Satchells Rum Swizzle:

• Fill a jug a third of the way with crushed ice, then add the rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, grenadine and bitters.
• Churn vigorously with a swizzle stick (or a very big spoon) until it starts frothing.
• Fill four big glasses with fresh ice and pour the swizzle over! 
• Garnish and enjoy!

For a non-alcoholic version, replace the rum with non-alcoholic ginger beer and omit the Angostura bitters!
