Semi-Rural Life with a Big City Draw

One thing that being in lockdown has taught us, is that we value our own space!

That’s not to say we’ve all become anti-social, far from it, but we value our living space and the immediate environment around where we live.

This is evident now more than ever due to lockdown, as so many people have spent a huge amount of time at home.

It’s made people really think about their location. “Do we really want to be living in a small place in London when we could be living somewhere bigger and with more open space?”

While some people have decided to turn their lives completely upside down by selling up and relocating to somewhere completely rural, this isn’t an approach for all. While we are seeing people wanting a more rural way of life, easy connections to the big city should they need to travel are also a pre-requisite.

Also, there is much debate about office working compared with home working, and whether one will outweigh the other.

There are of course benefits to both. You can weigh up the time and costs saved by ditching the commute, but then there’s the social interaction of working with your colleagues in the same building, rather than endless video conferencing.

Some people are now being encouraged to return to the office, while others are looking at working from home for the foreseeable future and this can be a tough decision to make, an almost lifestyle-changing moment.

So, the best of both worlds comes in the form of many city dwellers looking to rent a property in a rural location, often to try it out for size!

The trend is for people to move out of the city and rent properties within a 30 or 40 mile radius of London. The perfect commuting distance!

Let’s be honest, central London is an amazing place, there’s nowhere quite like it, but think about the divide when you leave and get back to your home in a semi-rural location that could be a million miles from your place of work.

A semi-rural location ticks all the right boxes. You get the short commute, and you get the communication technology that may not be fully available if you head way out into the sticks. You also get to enjoy the countryside and a relaxed pace of life allowing you to shut down from work at weekends for some vital family-time.

Lockdown has had an effect on so many people, with how and where they live and work now at the forefront of many minds.

Parts of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire offer the perfect location for a 40 minute commute. Idyllic landscapes sit on easy commuter routes to London and beyond so property in these areas are in high demand.

Currently, Satchells are looking for homeowners and landlords who may have properties available to rent as we have interested parties waiting.

Wherever you want to move to, we know Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire inside out and are happy to share our wealth of knowledge. Call us on 01462 410394 or email us at salesadmincentre@satchells.co.uk if you are looking to rent or buy.
