The Story of Satchells…so far

We all know the story of the Valley of the Kings and the discovery of Tutankhamun’s Tomb by Howard Carter. But what has this historical discovery got to do with the history of Satchells?

What you may not know is as Howard stood at the entrance of the ‘Boy King’s’ tomb, a little over 3,560 miles away in Letchworth Garden City, a gentleman named Mr J.G.D Satchell was standing before his own sealed doorway.

This was the doorway to his longed-for estate agency and would deal in residential sales and lettings. But here, the comparison fortunately ends. As unlike, Tutankhamun, Mr J.G.D Satchell would accomplish much more!

He would go on to establish an agency that was to grow to become the hugely successful, independently owned and traditional family-run business that it is today.
A determined character, Mr Satchell ran his agency until after the war when Mr Bill Parker joined the firm. When Mr Satchell retired, Bill took over, and was later joined by his son-in-law Mr John Hilditch. When the time came for Bill to retire, John took control and responsiblity for the expansion of the firm.
He relocated the Letchworth office to Eastcheap and opened additional offices in Baldock, Biggleswade, Sandy and Stotfold.
In keeping with the family tradition, John’s sons (Bill Parker’s grandsons) Alan and Derek then joined the firm. They relocated the Sandy office to Shefford and opened the Hitchin branch in 2015.

100 Years and Four Generations

Almost 100 years later, and with the fourth-generation the Satchells family at the helm, Satchells continue to build on their strong brand, with an incredibly experienced team.

Satchells has steadily grown to become one of the largest estate agents in the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire area. They maintain their independence as a traditional family-run estate agency and offer unrivalled knowledge and expertise in property for sale and to let in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.

Today with six prominent town centre offices and working with Fine and Country in London Satchells lies firmly on the map – just like Tutankhamun’s Tomb.
